St Ives, Cornwall

We stayed in St Ives for a week last year and really loved it, so we have come back again.  We are renting an apartment again.  From the same lady, but this time we have a different location.  This is because this apartment comes with a garage.  That's the only reason for the change.  It's really a cottage, a former fisherman's cottage.  Very cute and quaint.  It is spread over 3 1/2 levels.  The bedroom is on the top level, then the living and dining, down a few steps to the kitchen and then down a further flight of stairs to the bathroom.  The bedroom is a loft and the ceiling slopes so on one side you cannot stand up.  Needless to say we didn't make the bed, but tidied it a bit.  Each of the rooms is a quirky shape, making it unique and interesting.

It has been furnished to a very high standard and has all the mod cons.

St Ives is very special.  Probably the most  famous of Cornish villages.  It is very picturesque, cobblestone streets perched along the cliff overlooking the harbour and four beautiful beaches.  The light is very special here.  it attracts artists and photographers from all over the world.  Warmed by the gulf stream, you can expect better than average weather and sub tropical gardens and plants.

St Ives is a thriving artist community.  There are many galleries, workshops and shops selling their wares.  Clothing, jewelry, pottery, painting, ceramics, photography.  I am sure there is more.  It is all here.  The Tate Gallery is here - although we weren't impressed with it's contents.  The building itself is pretty amazing and the views of Porthmeor Beach are stunning.  The Barbara Hepworth sculpture museum and garden are definitely worth a visit.

Cafes, restaurants and pubs are here in their hundreds.  There are lovely coastal walks.  We like the one from Carbis Bay to St Ives.  If you are energetic you can walk both ways, but if you are like us, take the train to Carbis Bay and walk back or vice versa.  The views are sensational.

There are so many places you go from St Ives.  The whole of Cornwall awaits.

Below, our apartment and Porthmeor beach just minutes from our cottage.
