Keighley and Worth Valley Railway

We then drove into Keighley to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.  We caught a steam train at Ingrow West which took us to Keighley and then back along the line through the stations of Damens, Oakworth, Haworth and Oxenhope.

Damens is the smallest full sized station in the UK.  Oakworth which still retains its Edwardian splendour is the most famous stop of the railway having been used as the station in the 1970 film The Railway Children.

We got off the train at Haworth and walked up two very steep hills to reach the Parsonage, home to the Bronte family and the Parish Church which is the final resting place of many members of the Bronte family.

The town of Haworth attracts many visitors and the main street, cobblestoned and very steep is lined with many interesting shops, cafes and ice-cream vendors.

On such a hot day and having walked up two steep hills we felt we deserved an ice-cream.

We then walked back down the hill through the gardens to the railway station and caught the train back to Ingrow West.
