Moors and Dales

Today we decided to take a drive through the Dales and Moors.  We started off by driving to Ilkey and Ulkey Moor and then on to the village of Skipton where we stopped for lunch and looked at the narrow boats on the canal.

We then drove across the moors drinking in the amazing scenery. The rolling green hills dotted with sheep and dry stone walls.  Tiny ancient villages were scattered in the Dales.  Our drive took us to Hawes in Wensleydale.  We stopped at the Wensleydale Cheese factory where we were able to taste a vast variety of cheeses.  After tasting all the cheeses we settled on some cheese with cranberries.  A variety that is only sold at the factory and not available elsewhere.
We drove along some very narrow winding country lanes lined with dry stone walls and wild flowers.

Wensleydale of course is synonymous with Wallace and Gromit and in their famous words, "It were a grand day out"
