Regensburg

This morning we passed through the final lock on the Main Danube canal as we went onto the Danube River.  To navigate the final lock we had to drop something like 20 metres to lower the boat to the river.  It was quite spectacular and many of the passengers were on the front taking photos and watching as we negotiated the lock.

Because of some hold ups the previous evening at some of the locks our ship was running late and we had to dock at a different location and that then changed our program for the day and we ended up with less time to enjoy Regensburg.
We went by bus into the city and were met by our guide who took us on a 2 hour walking tour
Regensberg is a beautiful medieval town that dates from the 9th century. The historic buildings include ancient Roman, Romanesque and Gothic buildings. Regensburg’s 11th- to 13th-century architecture – including the market, city hall and cathedral – still defines the character of the town marked by tall buildings, dark and narrow lanes, and strong fortifications. The buildings include medieval patrician houses and towers, a large number of churches and monastic buildings as well as the 12th-century Old Bridge.
