Cambridge

Cambridge is a city on the River Cam, home to the prestigious University of Cambridge, since 1209.

University colleges include King’s, famed for its choir and towering Gothic chapel, as well as Trinity, founded by Henry VIII.  They are the most famous and the most visited.

We went into the city on a beautiful sunny day so we went punting.  Not the easiest things to get in and out of but once seated it is lovely to glide silently along the river as the guide points out the various colleges, famous bridges such as the Magdalene and the Mathematical bridges.  We pass beautiful gardens and immaculate expanses of lawn with patterns cut into it.  Weeping willows line some of the banks and we brushed past them.

The trip takes about an hour.  You can do what we did and share a punt with other people, hire a punt just for yourselves which is pretty expensive or hire your own punt and drive it yourself which we saw many people attempting to do.  It's obviously not as easy as it looks.
