Kinver Edge

Headed for Bridgnorth we decided to visit a National Trust property along the way.

We visited Kinver Edge and the Holy Austin Rock houses.

Kinver Edge is a rocky sandstone ridge with amazing views of the countryside and hollowed straight into the sandstone are these amazing modest houses with bare rock walls, but surprisingly cozy with crackling fires and furnishings.

The National Trust now own them and have restored them and furnished them as they would have been.  They were inhabited until the early 1960’s.  It is said the rock houses were for the inspiration for JRR Tolkien’s hobbit novels as he lived nearby in Birmingham.
