We drove to Haversthwaite and caught a 20 minute steam train on the Lakeside and Haversthwaite heritage railway to
Lakeside where we then hopped on a Lake Windemere cruise aboard a steamer on the southern edge of the lake for
the 45 minute scenic cruise to Bowness on Windemere.
Bowness is a very popular town with people coming to enjoy boating and water sports and just enjoying the towns atmosphere and delightful setting. We had packed a picnic lunch and we enjoyed that in the park opposite the lake.
After our lunch we took the steam train back to Haversthwaite and we
then drove the short distance to the Lakeland Motor Museum.
The Lakeland Motor Museum houses a collection of classic cars, motorcycles, bicycles, pedal cars and motoring related items and memorabilia.
The museum includes a fascinating display on the record breaking Campbell family.
The Campbell Bluebird Exhibition is a tribute to the facing career of Sir Malcolm and Donald Campbell. There are full sized replicas of the Blue Bird cars they raced.
