Lakes District -Sizergh Castle

Today we decided to visit a National Trust property,  Sizergh Castle and gardens.

This imposing house stands proud at the gateway to the Lake District.

Its rich and beautiful garden includes a pond, a lake, a national collection of ferns and a superb limestone rock garden.

Still lived in by the Strickland family has centuries old portraits and fine furniture sitting alongside modern family photographs.

The exceptional wood panelling culminates in the Inlaid Chamber, returned to the house in 1999 from the Victoria and Albert Museum.  The property is 1600 acres and includes pastures, orchards and woodland.

We enjoyed wandering around the gardens in beautiful sunny weather.
