Our next destination was Cinque Terre.

We set off on the train for Monterosso.  We were expecting to see magnificent views all the way there.  In reality the train goes through a series of tunnels and you only see glimpses here and there and a bit of the view when the train stops at the station

The train arrived in Montorosso and we walked from the station to the hotel alongside the beach.  Eventually you arrive at the Hotel Margarita, a brightly coloured terracotta and yellow building.

There is an outdoor terrace with tables and chairs.  Our room was quite nice and we were grateful for air conditioning.  We also had a small balcony but unfortunately no view.

After settling in to our room we went out again to the train station and caught the train to Manarola and walked the Via Dell A’more (lovers path) along to Riomaggiore.  It is a very easy 20-30 minute walk all paved and fenced.  It was such a pretty walk that after we had explored Riomaggiore we turned around and did the walk back to Manarola.  By the time we reached Manarola we were exhausted it was very hot and we just got on the train.
