Lucerne

Lucerne was the last town on our magnificent Swiss Alps Rail Tour.

Lucerne has a picturesque lakeside and riverside setting against an impressive mountain backdrop.  The mountains are the Pilatus and Riga.

After settling in to our hotel we set off on a walking tour of Lucerne beginning with crossing the very picturesque wooden bridge with its painted gables and sides adorned with colourful flower displays.
We crossed the bridge to the car free old town and walked around there.  The town square is lined with historic half timbered houses that have frescoes painted on them.
There are 3 bridges across the river and we crossed back and forth using all the bridges.
The waterfront is lined with cafes and restaurants and you can sit there and admire the views.
