Zermatt to Montreaux

We caught two scenic trains that took us to Montreaux on the shores of Lake Geneva.

Our hotel was right opposite the train station on a hill overlooking Lake Geneva.  Our room was at the back of the hotel with views of the train station which is a beautiful building.

The restaurant/breakfast room had an expansive terrace which had fabulous views of Lake Geneva.

Lake Geneva is huge surrounded by snow capped mountains that seem to rise out of the water.  The path around the lake is lined with colourful flower beds and palm trees making it feel very mediteranean.  It was also very warm and sunny.

The hotel gave us these passes which entitled us to free trolley bus transport so we took the bus to see Chateau de Chillon, a beautiful medieval castle on the edge of Lake Geneva.

We then we took the trolley bus to Vivey also on Lake Geneva.  We walked the tree lined path along the shore until we came to the statue of Charlie Chaplin. He spent his last years in Vevey.

There is also a modern sculpture, a fork sitting in the middle of the lake.  There are also some plastic seats welded to the rocks on the lakes edge that you can sit on if you scramble over the rocks.

Returning to Montreaux we walked along the lakes edge looking for another statue, that of Freddie Mercury who also lived by Lake Geneva but in Montreaux.

We sat in a cafe with a beer and listened to a band and later in the evening we had dinner in a restaurant overlooking Lake Geneva and watched the sunset.

Here's a few photos of our train journey and views of Montreaux and Vevey.
